Whitefield pupils enjoy Schools’ Hockey Festival
Posted on: 09/10/2017
On Wednesday 4th October the mixed year 7 and 8 Whitefield Hockey Team played against teams from all over London and the South East at the Schools Hockey Festival held at the home of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre. The team played five matches and came away winning three out of the five clocking up an impressive 12 goals for the day. The two teams they lost out to went on to be the winner and runners-up of the competition and were very experienced teams who we put up a good fight against.
"For some of our younger players it was the first time they had played hockey at this level and in a completely new team so to come away with three wins is testament to the fantastic teamwork and hard work that they put in." Miss Morphew, Director of Hockey.
The "team player of the day" went to Oskar Krajewski for his adaptable playing skills, working hard to be effective in both defence and attack when the team needed it. Blanka Szilagyi and Nadia Ksiasek continued to work together well in the centre finding linking passes to goal scorers André Almeida and Nora Llolluni.
Honourable mentions go to our youngest players Zahraa Al Aali and Skye Appiah who found a strong aptitude for tackling and Roshni Lopchan Tamang and Mpho Nyoni who were very effective at clearing the ball up towards the forwards and midfields.
The students had to learn about teamwork, good sportsmanship along with the ups and downs of winning and losing and it was a brilliant opportunity for them to experience playing at a world class venue. Here's to more hockey games to come.
