Students bump into Mayor Sadiq Khan

It all added up for pupils from Whitefield School, near Brent Cross, when they bumped into the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan while travelling to a maths competition in central London.

The irony was that the competition - the Count on Us Secondary Challenge – is funded by the Mayor’s Fund for London.

The school tweeted: “When you’re on route to the Mayor of London’s count on us challenge and you bump into the man himself.”

The mayor replied: “Great to meet @Whitefield_NW2 team. Hope you did well and everyone enjoyed the comp.”

The competition, delivered in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation, combines a series of mental arithmetic and problem-solving tasks to help pupils become confident mathematicians.

The year eight and nine pupils from the school, on Claremont Road, bumped into the mayor on the tube near Waterloo.
