Ofsted 2014: Whitefield receives glowing praise

Posted on: 09/01/2014

Dear Parent or Carer

As you are aware, in January 2014, Ofsted inspected our school. Attached is the final report and I hope that your trust in Whitefield School is reinforced by the glowing praise it contains. What makes this even more rewarding, is the fact that it is harder now than ever before to gain a Good or Outstanding grade, as Ofsted keep raising their standards. So for us to be judged as having Outstanding Leadership and Management at all levels is a superb achievement!

The Inspectors were very complimentary about what is going on here, far more so than the language of this report reflects, but comments such as the following are particularly pleasing:

‘The leadership and management of the school are outstanding.’

‘Students are very proud of their school. They enjoy coming to school and they behave well. They want to learn and they work hard in lessons.’

‘Students make good and often exceptional progress so that they achieve very well in their GCSEs.’

‘Teachers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their subjects.’

‘The school is a harmonious and happy community in which adults and students show high levels of courtesy and respect for each other.’

‘New and highly effective leadership in the sixth form has brought about recent rapid improvements.’

However, we will not rest on our Laurels.

Ofsted even suggested that in 6-7 months we invite their inspectors back in because they were convinced that in this relatively short space of time, we will have become Outstanding in every category.

In the meantime may I extend my gratitude and heartfelt thanks to everyone who works to make this school as successful as it is through their support for our students and your children.

Yours sincerely

Mr. Martin Lavelle
Headteacher
