Whitefield School celebrate a great set of GCSE results in 2020

Posted on: 21/08/2020

At the end of a very challenging year, the Year 11 students at Whitefield School are celebrating some amazing GCSE results. Unfortunately, we are still waiting to have the vocational BTEC exam results confirmed. Lots of students took a BTEC in one or more subject, so these results will be important to the students as they decide on their next steps to Sixth Form College or into apprenticeships.

Despite the slightly unusual arrangements that had to be in place to ensure the school was ‘Covid secure’, this did not stop the Year 11 students from celebrating with staff at yesterday’s Results Day. We were joined by a reporter from Radio London who was broadcasting live from the School Theatre all morning. Lots of students had the chance to speak live on air to over one million listeners as part of the Vanessa Feltz Breakfast Show, on air from 7am to 10am.

Elizabeth Rymer, Headteacher, said “so many students achieved results that they should be proud of, and importantly have achieved the results they need that will set them up for their next step to Sixth Form College or onto apprenticeships. I am delighted that so many students have chosen to carry on their studies for A Levels and Vocational courses at Whitefield Sixth Form. Despite all the challenges our young people have faced this summer, all the students have remained positive throughout and have developed important life skills like resilience, patience and self-study that will help them whatever the future holds in store for them”.

We also have some fantastic results for our Year 10 students, who all took at least one early entry GCSE in the 2020 summer exam series. It is particularly pleasing to see some students achieve a Grade 9, the highest grade possible, in early entry languages, Drama, Geography, History, Film Studies, Sociology, RE, and Art.

Special mention must go to Year 10 students Zahra Dael who achieved a Grade 9 in Geography, History and Spanish and James Owen Vilanueva who achieved grade 9 in Art, History and Spanish. Carissa Tucker achieved a Grade 8 in Geography, Music and Sociology. And a number of Year 10 students achieved only the top Grade 7, 8 or 9 in all their early GCSEs. Our students can now build on their early entry successes from Year 10 and we look forward to some more amazing results in 2021.
