"The future of our nation depends on our ability to create and to be creative”
Drama challenges students’ perceptions about their world and themselves and provides them with a valuable outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams which they might not otherwise have means to express. We give students the opportunity to develop fundamental life skills, such as team work and communication skills, through a range of unique and creative projects, increasing their future employability.
The Drama department forms part of the Creative Arts faculty, which is a thriving hub of creativity. Students take part in a variety of enrichment activities, which often leads to students performing in and running our whole school musicals. Recent productions have included Hairspray and our original musical Sixty, which was written and produced by the department. Our current production of the Lion King is already causing a stir in the jungle! Students also have the opportunity to visit a variety of theatre performances such as Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory throughout the year. For the last three years we have entered The Mousetrap Theatre Project's Dragon's Den competition, where students have won twice in their marketing bid for a West-End musical. We are also taking part in Shakespeare Schools Festival this year, adding to the list of inspiring activities available for our students.
